O’Hara’s Craft Beer has launched Winter Star, a spiced rye ale with natural rye and seasonal spices- a winter warmer that will light up dark skies and cold nights… (and is also available in the O’Hara’s Craft Beer Christmas Gift Box!)
The Brewing Process: Rye was chosen as the dominating specialty malt for its natural spicy and warming qualities, which make it perfect for a winter ale! The Rye also provides an excellent base; strong enough in flavour to stand up to the spice additions while also providing distinctively complementary characteristics.

Imagine walking in to a snug kitchen from the cold, while the Christmas pudding is slow cooking on the range… Cinnamon is the first warming fragrance that greets you like an old friend, this gentle headiness gives way to a rye breadiness, with a typical crystal malt aroma lingering on the nose.
The Taste: Cinnamon spice up front gives way to a weighty malt flavour. The rye spice comes through nicely following on from the cinnamon and lasts for a long finish. A light orange rind flavour adds a pleasant citrusy balance.

Glazed hams, succulent turkey, sage stuffings, mince-pies with creams, plum puddings and the ubiquitous double decker Christmas sambo, with all the trimmings are some of the tasty festive treats to pair with this Rye Ale.
